84th Street Trail Project

The next phase of the redevelopment of the 84th Street corridor in La Vista is now underway.

Beginning in October 2025 and lasting until approximately Spring 2027, the 84th Street Trail Project will involve the following:Drone photo of 84th Street near the bridge project site

  • Construction of a bridge over the Thompson Creek channel with an underpass that will allow the City to create a trail connection between Central Park and Central Park West.
  • Creation of 10-foot-wide trails to replace the four-foot sidewalks that run along either side of 84th Street from Giles Road to Harrison Street. The new trails will be positioned farther away from the road – improving pedestrian safety.

The first visible work on this project will start the week of October 20 with the removal of trees along both sides of 84th Street.

The lengthy process of building the bridge over the creek channel is where drivers will notice an impact on traffic. Drivers should expect that 84th Street will be limited to one-lane in each direction from near Park View Boulevard to City Centre Drive into the early part of 2027. As with any road construction project, the timeline is weather dependent and could vary slightly.

The project’s total cost – including planning, design, and construction - $12.2 million. The City of La Vista successfully secured a $5 million federal grant to help fund the project, covering close to half of the total cost.

The City’s share of this project is $7.2 million, which is being paid for by the half cent sales tax voters approved in 2014 for 84th Street redevelopment.

Updates will be posted here and on the City’s social media accounts throughout the project.
